The Woman on the Rocking Chair (2014) for piano. 6 min.
This piece is written for a good friend of mine, and his entire family. My friend's mother was battling cancer for a long time, and towards the end of her life, her friends bought her a rocking chair. She would sit on that chair and rock back and forth, knitting, for hours, smiling the whole time. She ended up passing away, so I dedicated this piece to honor her and her family.
The Woman on the Rocking Chair was first performed by the Split the Lark New Music Ensemble at Rutgers, on their first concert. It has since then been performed by Split the Lark in their Art Museum tours, which included the Zimmerli Art Museum, the Alfa Art Gallery, and others.
This recording is the performance from my Senior Recital, by Kay Madison (one of the founding members of Split the Lark), on November 18th, 2016.
