Catch Me! (2016) for wind sextet. 4.5 min.
This piece written in 2016 for the IMANI Winds Chamber Music Festival 2016, and first performed at the Stiefel Concert Hall at Mannes School of Music.
Program Notes for Catch Me!:
This piece is very playful in nature, and the beginning motive of the bassoon teases the other players to play “tag,” almost as if saying “catch me!”. This piece is a fusion of Frank Ticheli-style scoring, jazz, and minimalistic textures.
This piece will eventually be a part of a three movement work for wind sextet. I hope to expand the literature for wind sextet, since it seems like 'the piece to play' for wind sextets is the Poulenc Wind Sextet. I hope to add a new standard for this ensemble with this three-movement work.
